Footage from Libya Demonstration London

A couple of short clips of video shot at the Libya demonstration in London on the 24th March 2011.

Newlyn Fish Auction

Nearby fishing town, Newlyn, holds a fish auction every morning for fishmongers to buy fish in bulk to sell. It all kicks off nice and early at 6:30am!

It was really surprising to see how cheaply all the fish was sold for, and the speed at which it all goes!

Person at Work

Here are some images from one of my University Projects entitled 'Person at Work'. For this project I went to Mylor, a local village on Falmouth Bay. It is where all the Oyster Fishermen in the area fish for their oysters.

I went out on a boat with them on a Saturday for 4 hours. They are only permitted to fish for oysters 6 days a weeks and during specific hours. On weekdays, they are allowed to fish between the hours of 9am and 3pm, and on Saturday, they are only allowed to fish between the hours of 9am and 1pm. All of this is to make sure that over-fishing doesn't occur.

They are also required to use sailing boats when fishing. This means that they don't stay on the same area of the bay for long. These small but important parts of fishing in the bay make the fishing a lot greener, and also mean that the trade can carry on for years to come.

The two guys that I went out with, Jay and Julian, were both really great guys who had been Oyster Fishing for most of their lifetime, and specifically in Falmouth Bay for the past 10 years.

The hard manual labour which they have to endure each day is intense and I respect all oyster fisherman for the amount of work which is put in to fishing for the oysters. It is just a shame that the money which they receive from selling the oysters is nothing in comparison to the prices at which they are sold in the leading restaurants across the country.

I also visited a tattoo artist in Penryn. Bob, a laid back kinda guy was keen for me to photograph him doing his tattoos and I was lucky enough to be there to photograph him finishing off an eagle on a mans back.

London Libya Demonstration

On Thursday 24th March 2011, a couple of hundred demonstrators took to the street next to Hyde Park, London. They were demonstrating about the situation in Libya and the doing of the Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi.

Not only adults, but kids were there. All fighting for the same cause. Many with family out in Libya and some too with family who have been killed in the violent protests and wrong doings of Gadaffi.

Some photos taken during the demonstration:

Falmouth University Student Demonstration

So, this is the start of my blog...

The work here is from a student demonstration at University College Falmouth back on 24th November 2010. A march started up on Tremough Campus and finished 4 miles away in the centre of Falmouth.

To be honest, the turn out wasn't exactly what was to be expected, but the PCSOs, I'm sure, were glad to only have to keep an eye on 30 or so students marching through the wet streets of the town!
